Countertop

Whether it is kitchen, bathroom or other entertainment space, countertops get a lot of wear and tear. When picking which one you want for your space, there are many different elements to keep in mind. With their expert knowledge of various options, your OHI Design designer will work with you to choose the one that best fits your needs and aesthetic.

Natural Stone

Granite is probably the best choice for a countertop within the natural stone range if you are looking for something durable. They provide a timeless appearance with a distinctive pattern within each different slab. Granite is extremely resistant to heat and scratches, which makes it a great choice for kitchens.

Marble is universally loved for its luxury and timelessness. They exude richness with their classic veining and white or creamy hues. They do require more care and maintenance and are more sensitive to staining and etching.

Quartzite is another natural stone that offers vast natural beauty. They feature striking veining patterns that come in an impressive range of colors. A lot of these stones are rare and are priced on the higher end. They also require more care and maintenance to keep them looking their best.

Engineered Stone

Quartz is a manmade stone and is extremely durable, stain resistant and low maintenance. Their nonporous surface makes them more hygienic and as they are not only resistant to stains but bacteria. Because they manmade they are available in a diverse range of colors and patterns.

Porcelain is steadily gaining popularity for its exceptional strength and versatility. It is resistant to heat, staining and scratch damage. Porcelain countertops are also available in a range of finishes and are not only a great choice for countertops, but also shower walls and outdoor surfaces.

Other Material

Cultured marble is a man-made material used for countertops that was extremely popular in the 1960s into the 1980s. Although some cultured marble can look outdated, there is something to be said for the clean white variety and its integrated sink option. This is a good choice for a child’s bathroom or a guest bathroom when you want to stay low in budget but with a clean aesthetic.

Corian is a brand of solid surface material. It is composed of acrylic polymer and alumina trihydrate, a material derived from bauxite ore. It also has an integrated sink and some individuals love it for its durability. It is also easy to repair (think of it being sanded like wood).
